Do you want to combine expertise in corrosion with the ability to create value for customers?

The Corrosion and Tribology Group at SINTEF Industry in Trondheim is looking for an engaged researcher or senior researcher who not only enjoys corrosion research but also values customer interaction and project development.

The group is part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary research environment within the Department of Materials and Nanotechnology. Here, you will have the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to innovation at the intersection of research and industry. We work closely with industry and leading research communities to develop sustainable material technology solutions that strengthen sectors such as oil and gas, renewable energy, aquaculture, infrastructure, and process industry.

Specific Requirements

• PhD or extensive research experience in corrosion.
• Solid expertise in various corrosion phenomena.
• Experience in material characterization (preferably with practical laboratory experience in industry).
• Competence with methods such as EIS, polarization, SEM/EDS, XRD, and metallography.
• Ability to analyze and interpret corrosion mechanisms and develop prediction and mitigation tools.
• Ability to combine technical depth with commercial understanding and interest in customer interaction.
• Preferred experience in project management.
• Preferred experience in numerical modelling and simulation of corrosion processes.
• Strong communication skills in Norwegian and English (oral and written).

Eligibility criteria

• PhD or equivalent research experience in corrosion.
• Demonstrated experience in material characterization and laboratory work.
• Competence in essential corrosion-related techniques (EIS, polarization, SEM/EDS, XRD, metallography).
• Strong proficiency in Norwegian and English.

Responsibilities

• Take initiative and actively contribute to research projects and commissioned work within corrosion and corrosion protection.
• Plan and follow up experimental work, as well as develop test setups and methods.
• Analyze and interpret data to understand corrosion mechanisms, develop tools for failure prediction, and propose mitigation measures.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and partners through active and professional communication.
• Prepare project proposals and participate throughout the project lifecycle, from idea phase and customer contact to project execution.

Communicate research results clearly and engagingly, both internally and externally.
