Need to have

M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Process Engineering, Materials, Petroleum Technology, or equivalent, with strong fundamental understanding in chemistry.

Solid academic record.

Genuine curiosity for real‑world chemical and operational challenges, beyond theoretical knowledge.

Strong analytical skills to translate data and calculations into practical decisions.

Fluency in English (both written and spoken) and a valid EEA work permit.

Nice to have

Relevant experience from internships or summer Jobber in oil & gas, chemicals, water treatment, or process industries.

Experience with lab‑based theses related to scale, corrosion, flow assurance, or analytical chemistry.

Working knowledge of data analysis tools like Power BI; experience with Python/R or simulation tools (e.g., ScaleSim, OLGA/ScaleChem) is a plus.

A self‑starter with a proactive mindset, taking ownership of deliverables and driving improvements.

Clear and concise communication skills to effectively engage with diverse teams (operations, vendors, engineers).

Comfortable with offshore environments and eager to gain hands‑on operational experience.

This isn’t just a graduate program; it’s the start of your journey to optimise critical offshore processes. As a Production Chemistry Engineer in our 2027 Graduate Program, you will be at the forefront of Aker BP’s ambition to become the world’s Første AI‑native E&P Selskap. Through rotations and a crucial offshore placement, you will develop the skills to manage chemical treatments, ensure asset integrity, and contribute to our goal of a 3× productivity improvement.

Performance ownership

Own and optimise production chemistry performance for assets, setting treatment strategies and approving chemical selections.

Supplier governance

Govern the performance of external chemical suppliers, holding them accountable in meetings and through KPI reporting.

Efficiency & Cost optimisation

Drive continuous optimisation in treatment efficiency, chemical consumption, cost, and emissions.

Budget management

Manage chemical budgets for assigned systems, including purchase order approvals and cost control.

Trial & Qualification management

Define and approve field trials and chemical qualifications, evaluating lab tests and permit applications.

Compliance & HSE

Ensure regulatory and emissions compliance, handling reporting and participating in HSE meetings.

Project & Asset support

Support brownfield/greenfield projects and asset governance, providing critical production chemistry input.

Your journey in Production Chemistry

This program offers a unique blend of laboratory science, operational reality, and commercial management. You’ll gain hands‑on experience, progressing from foundational learning to full accountability for chemical performance and supplier governance.

Foundational immersion

Kickstart your journey by shadowing an experienced Production Chemist, getting introduced to your assigned asset, key chemical systems, and core tools like LIMS and PIMS.

Building accountability

By month 6, you’ll be actively quality‑assuring supplier performance for an asset, chairing weekly meetings, contributing to budget follow‑up, and evaluating optimisation proposals.

Driving impact & ownership

By month 18, take full accountability for an asset’s chemical performance, managing budgets, leading optimisation initiatives, and representing the discipline in asset and HSE forums.

Lab to offshore link

Experience the unique interface between laboratory science and live offshore operations, seeing the direct impact of your chemical decisions on real production.

Supplier governance & Commercial acumen

Develop rare technical and commercial judgement by governing external chemical suppliers, managing real budgets, and making decisions affecting OPEX and production uptime.

Cross‑disciplinary collaboration

Engage with diverse teams including operations, integrity, process, and laboratory personnel across multiple assets, providing critical production chemistry input.
